books by candlelight

A storyteller's library

I need to start keeping track of all my books, because they keep mysteriously disappearing. So, I give you my virtual library! I just updated the list I made in '06.

And the road goes on, seeming ever longer on the way to Mandalay... )

little fairy

Magic, the Wizard, and Vuldra

I was going to write a preview for the second chapter for The Tekkyo of Barei. But there isn't really a section that would make a good preview. So instead, I am going to ramble about magic in my little world of Duir.

Since many of my characters are wizards... )

The stuff from the last section are taken in pieces from a story outline, so it may not make much sense...

Stuff

So, this afternoon I decided to write down everything I've started/am working on this year. And not surprisingly, they're all from the Chronicles of Duir.

Here's my list, complete with summaries... )

LJ got rid of all my nice formatting but I'm too lazy to fix it. :P So, my question is, which story should I focus on right now? Which one sounds the most interesting?

my handsome prince

Chronicles of Duir: The Tekkyo of Barei

So this little story is part of the Prequels series from the Chronicles of Duir, and it's sort of like a backstory for Shaori. I haven't written anything about Shaori in so long, and it was so nice to have him back in my head! So here's Chapter One of The Tekkyo of Barei. (And this story seems to be flying from my fingers, so I should have chapter two done soon.)

The Tekkyo of Barei
Chapter One
Summary: It's Shaori's first time in the exotic land of Barei, and while he's there he learns of one of its best kept secrets: the tekkyo. It's a place full of women and strange magic. What kind of impression will Shaori leave?
Word count: 3,391 (about 8 pages)

I wrote this all last night. Amazing, isn't it?

It was like a different sort of magic. )

another one!

I wrote another story clip! This one is from Dragoncaller, which is my newest rewrite of Spirit of Magic. The characters have all been changed and some given new names, and it has acompletely new plotline. So, I give you my lame summary...

Summary: Born and bred in Victorian England, Alice has always been the odd one out because of her looks and her odd upbringing. Then, she and her best friend Victoria find an odd ring of stones which transports them to a strange, magical world…What unfolds there a strange mystery…a riddle, an unburied horror…and as Alice comes to learn where she truly belongs, will her best friend—and the life she knows—be left behind?

dance like a dervish

short thingy from Shadowmage

I wrote something! Actually, I wrote this about a year ago but whatever! It comes to you from the epic-type thing I am slowly working on called Shadowmage. Shadowmage is about a boy named Jake growing up in our world, but he never belonged here. He always belonged in Duir, where he has power beyond his dreams...

I think I am getting better at writing compelling summaries, no? :]

He was really waking from a long sleep. )

ocean's melody

Short story: Necklace of Shells (part 1)

Muahaha I am back! And I actually wrote something over the weekend!

Actually, I started this story about 4 years ago. I kept the beginning, but rewrote everything else. So, I give you...

Necklace of Shells
Summary: Four years ago, Tucker Rowe saw a girl who lived in the sea. Suddenly haunted by memories of her, Tuck revisits Mystic Beach with his two best friends, and discovers just how deadly a perfect wave can be...

As we rolled away from the city, into the endless green of the seemingly pristine countryside, I rolled down my window and let in the wind. Somehow, the air out here always seemed different. )

Huzzah! I haven't written anything in awhile. This made me happy.

I really want to go to the beach now...

princess in the leaves

some changes

So, I just deleted the three chapters I recently posted.

Um...I am having issues with my world and the people in it, and I've decided to scrap all of it and start over. All of it.

About six years of work.

It sounds odd, but it needs to be done. I've changed things too much, and now everything is confusing and I've got contradictions going on all over the place. So, I am starting anew. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Yeah. God= me.

I'll post some more later, when I get stuff figured out.

enchanted forest

skraelings and shadows: prologue & ch 1

I haven't made a pretty cover for this yet, but it's coming.

Title: Skraelings and Shadows
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Takes place within the Durne Chronicles continuum. Shaori plans a pleasant visit to the village where he grew up, only to find it ravaged by a nameless enemy. Not only that, but his childhood sweetheart is found wandering the forests blind, and with no recollection of the attack. Just when things can't get more confusing, Shaori and his gang are confronted by a beast none of them could have ever imagined: literally their worst nightmare!
Progress: Prologue and Ch 1 complete, Ch 2 80% complete.

It's better than it sounds.

lady in the mist

third story for Fiction 316

All right, this was heavily influenced by my steady diet of Goosebumps books when I was in elementary school. A lot of people in my class recognized that, which made me happy. I was happy with their reactions to this one, too. Kyle's comment sticks out in my mind most: "Reading your stories never feels like work to me." :D :D :D :D

Summary: It's the day before Halloween, which is Hannah Greene's best friend Danni's favorite holiday. Danni decides that they should take a walk through the neighborhood graveyard to get into the holiday spirit, but they meet someone there who will end up controlling both of their fates...

This one barely tops 11 pages because I wrote it all in one afternoon. :) It is 2,516 words.

BULL LIKILIKI!

Piratical Story of some sort

This is the second story I wrote for my fiction writing class. It's crazy, I'll warn you, but funny according to Petrock. It takes place in Durne, but no familiar characters make a cameo. I rather like Jaiden, I might have to bring him back in something...anyways, I'll be quite interested in what my class has to say about this...

It's 15 pages long, and a total of 3,968 words.

Beware: Washed-Up Mushcake Women's Panty-Wearing Pirate ahead! And let's not forget Flying Motormouth Orphan Boy! It's like a bad musical! )

I am going to gut this ending, gut it with a five-foot sword. I shall sew it up with fabulousness.

bagpipes at sunrise

gasp! a finished story!!

It's a miracle for me.
I wrote this for my fiction class. it hasn't been critiqued yet...next week...

The whole thing is 14 pages double-spaced, 4,146 words.

Summary: She's not crazy, she's just a little unwell...Chelsea believes her husband is cheating on her, but is he really?

The Other Woman. )

Hopefully this will get a good reception.

amy's story

This is pretty short right now, only a little over a page long, but hopefully soon I'll find time to work on it some more. It's a really nifty story idea!

silentwinter revamped

I think Amy's the only one who might remember my old SilentWinter story from middle school, but it's ok, because this is nothing like it. What I've done here is combined several different stories into one. Here I have chapters one and two, featuring characters like Cephira from Spirit of Magic, and Azure from The Priesthood. Wewt.

Oh, and the formatting is a little messed up, but it's readable.

Summary: When the goddess Anaraul fled Durne, disappointed in its people, she left no trace of magic save for an all-consuming force called the Malice. As the Malice slowly spreads over the land, a girl named Cephira sets out to find a way to save her people, following rumors of the return of a powerful mage known as Astrefleur.

You know you remember Astrefleur!

fanfiction: the sandman

Appropriate icon, eh?

This story came to me when I was reading Endless Nights. Even if you don't read The Sandman, you should be able to follow the story easily enough.

Really, I think this one's good. But I'll leave that up to you to decide.

But her metal man won't remain a mystery for long. previews of things to come...

All right, yes, before I am accused of never finishing stuff, I am working on BM. I've just hit a little bump...trying to work out a scene in chapter four before I can get to the good stuff. In the meantime, I started these two new ones on basically the same day.

Chiyo wakes up in a field of snow, having no memory of being stabbed. As she stumbles through a storm, trying to keep herself, she runs into a traveling monk and his apprentice, who decide to take her back to the House of Bones, where she says she is from. What Chiyo can't remember is that the reason she was sent away from the House was to bring back a husband...a man who will eventually shrivel under the command of a family of kitsune.

It sounds really retarded when I write it like that, but whatever. -_-;; I used the House of Bones thing from the idea in my last post, which I ditched pretty early on...

The year is 1750. In Barbados, Pippa McCarthy is a servant in her own brother's house. Having been stripped of her husband and infant son two years previously, Pippa has sworn to save enough money to travel in search of them. Unfortunately, the pirates that stole away her family are about to reappear on the tiny island, and Pippa may find herself with more than one death to avenge.

I was stricken with the overwhelming urge to write a pirate story. Shut up already. :D

Now, I need to go read The Metamorphosis or I will completely fail an essay quiz tomorrow.

books by candlelight

now for something completely different

I was struck with the weirdest inspiration last night.

I got this image of a brothel of witches...well, girls with magic, at least...and created a character who is taken in by one of the brothel girls after her house is burned down by Inquisitors. (This is in Venice, 18th century.) The girl's name is Una, and she's just found out her fiancee was declared a heretic and burned in England. That's why her house was burned--for some reason, the Inquisitors came after her and her family. After she's taken in by Flori and tutored by the other whores, a group of mages show up, her fiancee William among them. DundunDUN! It sounds fun to write, since I've never written about whores. XD

Oh, and Pandora makes an appearance...I think. I was going to use her in another story, but I think this works better for her. Now to create me a soundtrack...

gift!tape and interesting bm stuff

Here is a fabulous gift!tape for [info]broadway_bound3. Yeah, I haven't uploaded the songs yet, but you can tell me what you think and I'll get to it eventually.

And yuck, LJ changed the way it formats the posting screen. I dun like it! Waaaahhhh.

Anyway, let's take a look at my character and see what they really look like...kind of.

Behind the cut... )

That's all for tonight. Chapter Four has four pages so far...it'll probably be posted by the weekend.
